Sweetwater Verified at Muskegon Farmers Market

Laughing Tree Bakery
We’ve decided our longstanding market stall is a better fit for us overall, so you can find us back in Stall 135!
Hope to see you at the market soon–outdoor market is open 8–2pm and is already very lively!  Asparagus is happening, garden plants are abundant, and the energy is invigorating!

The Pasturage of Montague
We have piglets! They’re doing quite well despite our cool weather. When their mom steps out to feed, they burrow into the straw and when we call into the house to check on them, they pop their heads up, straw sliding off their snout. It’s endlessly entertaining. They’re just so darn cute in how piggy they are, even when so small. In warmer afternoons, they wander out and scratch themselves on honeysuckle stubs, just like their mama, grunting the whole time. That straw must be awful itchy! If you find yourself interested in raising your own pig in your backyard, these piglets will be available in about 4-6 weeks. If not, no worries, we’ll keep providing all the grillable goods with no sentimental connection.
Our website is down currently… at this rate, it might be down forever. I can raise animals but web development is not my specialty.  Maybe sometime in the future I’ll rejoin the virtual world. Until then, call or text my cell 23one 288 6 one one2.
I hope you had a lovely Memorial Day!

Laughing Tree Bakery
Join us at the outdoor market! We will be in a different stall this season–Stall 149.  It is directly across from where we’ve been the last 5 years so we won’t be hard to find… We are excited for the outdoor season!  The outdoor market is open 8–2pm.

The Pasturage of Montague
As of this writing, some of our chicks are lost in the mail. It’s very concerning.  Well, I guess I shouldn’t say lost. The status changes periodically from “in transit” to leaving Philadelphia (twice) and now “arriving late.” Two boxes did arrive the day after hatch. Then another box the day after that.  But now, it’s been 4 days and no cheeps to be heard. The most interesting thing is they all hatched on the same day. This is part of the reason why I want to move away from using hatcheries and raise our own. Enter the Wyandotte, a heritage breed of chicken that produces both eggs and meat (albeit a very different meat than most of us are used to). We have a couple hundred on premises and of different ages. We’ll start offering eggs in a few weeks when the oldest hens recover from being transported (did I mention transport is stressful for chickens?) In August or September, we’ll have meat for sale. Think chicken pot pie, chicken noodle soup, chicken and dumplings. I’ll keep you posted.
In the meantime, we still have a few cuts from our fall slaughter of the Sasso broiler chickens. And we’ll raise the 3 boxes we have received so there will be more in early August for your grill.
Use my cell for now23one 288 6 one one 2.
Tootles,
Julie

Sweetwater Verified at Muskegon Farmers Market

Laughing Tree Bakery
Join us for the FIRST outdoor market of 2025! We will be in a different stall this season–Stall 149.  It is directly across from where we’ve been the last 5 years so we won’t be hard to find… We are excited for the outdoor season to begin!  The outdoor market is open 8–2pm.

The Pasturage of Montague
Truly, spring has arrived: the peepers in our pond are deafening. I like the “natural silence” but for those not accustomed to their cacophony, it can be disturbing.  We also have an astonishing number of pollywogs. Apparently, the former owners used to raise frogs and sell frog legs so we have whopper sizes bullfrogs that add to the chorus. Now, they feed our green and blue herons that frequent our shore. But we can change that. Let me know if you’d like us to sell frog legs!
Otherwise, stick to the lamb, pork, chicken and turkey found on our list at https://thepasturage.com/order.

Hello all my Sweetwater friends. By the time you read this my most recent heartache will be complete. Things go forward, just like the seasons we live through.
My spinach is up and forming new leaves, should be ready to pick in about 2 weeks! Ramps are sprouting too so I should be back at market with those too. I will have an update next week and will be glad to see all of you soon. Thank you all for your kindness.

The Woven Farm of Whitehall
Hello folks!
With this cold and dreary weather, it will likely be a couple of weeks until our next big harvest- so keep a look out for updates on our return to market!
In the meantime, we are down to our last few CSA shares for the season! (Both flower shares and veggie shares are available!)
We rely on these early season sales to make the necessary purchases for a successful season! If you are looking for a way to support the farm this season, this is a lovely way todo so! You can learn more about our shares + sign up here: https://thewoventrifecta.com/shop/csa-shares)
If you would like to support the farm but need something a bit more flexible, we also have our market cards! You choose the amount you load onto the card and we load an extra20% to the total! Your market card can then be used throughout the season at any of our market booths/on farm!  A friendly reminder that our market cards NEVER expire!
A big thanks for your support!
We look forward to growing you an abundance this season!

The Pasturage of Montague
How-dee. I built a new type of brooder to keep our chicks warm. It’s called an Ohio brooder, or hover brooder, and it’s supposed to help prevent fires from the heat lamp. The number of people that I know personally that have burned down their house or barn or shelter (not to mention the animals), plus the one time we had a near fire ourselves (thankfully Dan caught it while it was only smoke), have convinced me to upgrade. Heat lamps seem so innocent.  But wow, can they do damage in a hurry.  Other types of small scale supplemental heat aren’t much better based on reviews I’ve read, so… cross your fingers that Ohio will come through!  We’ll use it for our laying hen chicks, meat chicks and turkey poults.
We still have chicken and turkey in stock now, from whole birds to cuts of every kind. Plus lamb and pork. Check out our list at https://thepasturage.com/order or call or email. Anyway you want to communicate is fine with me… well… except pinstagram or facetok… I’m not really equipped to mediate socially.
Tootles!

The Pasturage of Montague
We don’t really have spring on the farm. We have mud. Although watching rain fall on our pond is one of my favorite things, I know it leads to impassibility.  Like anywhere on our farm.  People are always surprised by this to which we reply “Claybanks township is aptly named.” Despite the brownie batter sucking our boots off with every step, the sheep are dropping more lambs and the rabbits are starting to kindle.  So, I guess spring does appear on our farm after all!
Easter approaches. Keepus in mind. Options abound. Our list can be found here: https://thepasturage.com/order
You are always welcometo call, text (23 one 288 6 one one 2) or email (thepasturage@gmail.com)an order, too. And if you can’t access the list, I’m happy to assist you viatelephone or email. We are located at Muskegon Farmers Market, 9-2pm, indoorsfor four more weeks!

Supporting Small Local Organic Food Producers since 2005!

MARKET NEWS

On March 7th, the new secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins, canceled two USDA programs supporting many local and organic farms, the Local Food Promotions Assistance (LFPA) and Local Food for Schools (LFS) programs. Launched in 2021, these long-overdue programs that mostly supported small local farms (many of which are farming organically) were in stark contrast to those historically introduced by the USDA to support “get big or get out” chemical agriculture. With local food banks and schools cancelling local contracts and farmers who had planned to sell into those programs already planted for the season – uncertainty is the rule right now.

All that said, it is vitally important that we who appreciate our local farmers do everything we can to support them. Buying locally helps; preordering locally helps even more!  And thank you.

The Mannor Farm of Hesperia
We will be at the Sweetwater Market on March 22nd from 10am -11am.   Order cut-off is 10pm on March 21st.
We will be offering the following:
Locally Grown Rabbit – Whole   Average 2.7 lbs  $8.00 per LB
Our rabbit is always young and tender.  Raised without the use of antibiotics or hormones, our farm-raised rabbit has virtually no fat and is a great source of protein. Try it today as an alternative to chicken or turkey!   All our meat is processed in a MDARD  Inspected facility.
USDA Organic Black Garlic.   Black Garlic starts off as regular white hardneck garlic.  Black Garlic is commonly referred to as being fermented, in fact, it’s not fermented.  It is a curing/drying process. The process of making black garlic is slow and done over a number of days. This completely changes the flavor, texture, smell, and even increases the health benefits of the garlic.  This USDA Organic garlic is  grown and processed in the USA.  $10.00 per 3.75 oz Resealable Pouch We will be offering a limited amount of taste samples weather permitting.
Onion Flakes. Only ingredient is our Certified Naturally Grown onions. $10.00per 6 oz Resealable Pouch
Hot Pepper Powder. Only ingredient is our Certified Naturally Grown hot peppers. $5.00per 2 oz Spice Jar
Garlic Seasoning Blend.   This blend is made up of equal parts of our locally naturally grown garlic, Organic Shri Lankan Black Pepper, and white sea salt. We also offer a salt free option.   $5.50 per 2.5 oz Spice Jar
We are also offering Organic Shri Lankan Black Peppercorns, CNG Crushed Hot Pepper and white sea salt.
We will also have wildflower honey and honey mustard from Sleeping Bear Farms in Beulah, Michigan as well as maple syrup from Kazsa Sugar Bush from Shelby, Michigan.
Pre-Orders for this market are appreciated.
We accept cash, credit/debit cards and SNAP/EBT (Bridge) cards.
Go to Shop at The Mannor Farm  (https://mannorfarm.eatfromfarms.com/shop.php) to place an order.  This site will get your order reserved immediately if the item is in stock.  Orders through this link get priority.
We prefer orders be placed through the above link but will take emailed or text orders. We need an email address or text phone number to send invoices to. Email orders to the.mannor.farm@gmail.com or text to 231-301-9894.

Hi peeps (it’s that time of year, right? where I can call you peeps?), Easter is around the bend. Do you celebrate? If so, we’d be honored to supply your table. We have all sorts of lamb, including bone-in and boneless leg of lamb, rack of lamb, bone-in and boneless shoulder. For the smaller crowds or appetizers, we have delectable lamb loin chops along with lamb snack sticks and jerky to nosh on. In my family, Easter breakfast was always coffee cake, hardboiled eggs and sausage. We have pork sausage (breakfast links and patties, Italian, hot Italian, brats) and lamb sausage (breakfast links, spicy breakfast links, brats) aplenty. Then there’s bacon, which really needs no season, holiday or excuse to crave. Take a gander at our list: http://www.thepasturage.com/order. We are delighted to serve you.

The Woven Farm of Whitehall
The sun is shining and crops are slowly growing! We have had a smooth start to the season with running water – Wowie does it feel great to not be spending time and energy hauling buckets!
Our hoophouse is planted out in spring greens and early season flowers that are growing more vibrant by the day with all of this sunshine!
I hope to return to market in April (perhaps late March if the crops allow!)
In the meantime, the early season support of the farm through CSA purchases is extremely appreciated as we make the necessary investments for this season!
We have a few CSA shares left (both veggie and flower shares are available!)
