New Vendor!
Saving Face Organics of Fruitport
Less than two years ago Susie Meyers, Fruitport resident and mother of 2 girls ages 5 & 4, decided to google all the ingredients on the label of face cream she was using and was appalled by all the cancer causing ingredients she found listed in it. She decided to try making her own cosmetics and using only certified organic ingredients she made her first successful batch just in time for Christmas of 2011, giving away samples to all her relatives and friends. Reaction was immediate and so overwhelmingly positive she started making cleansers, make-ups, masks, scrubs and lotions. Stop by her booth this Saturday, she’s excited to share her products with Sweetwater!
Hickory Ridge Family Farm
We’ll be at market this week with a freezer-full of our heritage pork! Raised on pasture, our pigs get 60% of their diet from foraging. We’ll have all cuts: bacon, pork chops, pork steaks, ham roasts, ham slices, ham hocks, ground pork in one pound pkgs, shoulder roasts and our newest product – Smoked Ham Ends & Pieces! Use for flavoring all your soups, stews and casseroles. This week stop by to see a cooking demo on how to make soup stock using our Ham Ends & Pieces and Shady Side Hutterite beans! We’ll also have our whole heritage breed Freedom Ranger chickens.
Shady Side Farm of Holland
Mike from Shady Side Farm will be at Saturday’s market with his certified organic dry beans. He will also have wool socks and mittens along for those who have cold feet and hands.
This week’s special will be 2-lb. bags of Hutterite Soup Beans. This week they will be available for $10, regularly $11.50. Here’s your bean fact for the day: The protein found in a half-cup of beans is 7-8 grams, which is 15% of the recommended daily allowance of protein. Beans are best eaten with whole grains, to form a complete protein. (from the “The Everything Beans Book” by Katie Kimball at www.kitchenstewardship.com)

Eggs ~ our own, and we will be selling Nic and Carolyn’s (Crow Feather Farm) eggs, too.
The BOBIER BEEF Story ~ Our steers and cows were born on our Farm, as were their great-great-great Grandmothers. We only buy bulls for breeding, and they come from reputable farmers in Michigan. Our cows raise their own calves until they are weaned at about 9 months. We raise our own hay, plus what we buy comes from our own neighborhood so we know how it was grown. Our cattle have access to 3-5 acre yards through the winter, with some barn access, fresh water, bedding straw, and all the hay they can eat. The steers get minimal amounts of homegrown and ground grain during the colder months (like Dessert!). We think this makes our beef tasty and tender, with all the benefits of grass-fed beef, too!
