Blackbird Farm of Coopersville
We are looking forward to seeing you again at this Saturday’s market with all manner of good things to eat!
This week we are again offering for pre-order our pre-selected, pre-packed bags of fresh vegetables. These bags are something akin to our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares. We assemble bags of our highest quality veggies based on whatever is fresh and in season for that week. In the bag, we aim to have some combination and quantity of at least five different vegetables with a combined value around $25. We also include a brief note from Farmer Greg and a farm-tested recipe. Each bag costs $20. This week’s bag will potentially contain a selection of some of the following: lettuce, mini-cabbages, carrots, scallions, herbs, green peppers, summer squash, zucchini, and tomatoes. To order your Blackbird Farms Veggie Bag, please email us at hello.blackbirdfarms@gmail.com
In addition, this season we are experimenting with offering four-week-long trial shares for folks who are curious about the CSA model but not quite ready to commit to a full season. These will be offered in four different four-week sessions (basically the months of August, September, and October), with pick-up on the farm on Thursday evenings. Trial shares will be offered as either full shares ($140) or small shares ($75). The sign-up form is available online.
We also plan to have many items for walk-up sales–watch for more information in Friday’s newsletter.
Thanks so much! We’re looking forward to seeing friends old and new this Saturday!

Things are picking up in the garden and some things are slowing down.
Squash is about done, I’ll bring yellow and green summer squash,
everything else is done. Please let me know if you want some for sure.
Lettuce is done also. But we’re closer to tomatoes, probably a few next
week, then omg. There are new varieties of potatoes this week, red
skinned and blue called Blackberry. Super dark, beautiful color.
Speaking of blackberries, I’ll have a few pints of them this week and
more next week. Beetle patrol is in force. The first cucumbers were
spotted, I’ll bring what there is ready. For everything else, I’ll bring
kale, curly and dino, Swiss chard, kohlrabis, carrots, Chinese cabbage and round cabbage, herbs, sweet basil and globe basil for drying or fresh, parsley. If you’d like some beets, please send a text. I need to know if they’re wanted. Please text me at 734 945 0720 by 6 pm and I’ll have it for you Saturday morning. Thank you for your support this year and always.

*Chicken eggs have been in short supply. Please don’t give up on us. I have 52 lovely little chick hens that should begin to lay at production level in September. I’ve been raising them since early April. They will likely tip the scale from a supply issue to a demand issue. The standing order list will reopen once the young hens begin laying. Please let me know if you would like to be on the list, and how many dozen you would like weekly. Thanks!
**Duck eggs are $10/dozen.
**I have finally committed to ordering female ducklings. They are still $15 apiece, but I found a source with reasonable shipping. They arrive in a couple of weeks and should begin to lay in February if the weather is favorable.

The Pasturage of Montague
Good day, fair market friends! Have you ever seen a green heron? Dan and I have enjoyed their presence near our pond for the last several years. Last Friday, a red tailed hawk intruded on “our” green heron’s space. It made me wary for our turkeys when they emerge from the protection of the brooder in a couple of weeks. They’ll be rotated on pasture with our sheep. I best get moving on their mobile pasture roost! As always, our pre-order form is the best way to see what we have and get what you want! Find it here: https://form.jotform.
Just a small sampling of our lamb & pork products from our preorder form:
Ground Lamb $13 PER POUND
Lamb Stewmeat $13 PER POUND
Lamb Hot Dogs (aka sheep dogs) $11.50 PER EACH
Lamb Gyro Brat $11.50 PER EACH
Pork Chops $12.00 PER POUND
Andouille Pork Sausage $13.50 PER EACH
Pork Breakfast links $13.50 PER POUND
Enjoy!
