We’re ready!  Maple Moon Farm will be back this week.  Our fall gardens are growing and the hoophouse is planted and growing lots of food for the winter.

This week we will be bringing tomatoes, onions, garlic, beets, carrots, kale, chard, fresh herbs, and apples.  We have wonderful tasting wild apples! They aren’t too pretty, but they taste great and

are great for making applesauce.  Apples are one of the most heavily sprayed produce, so get yours chemical free!  We have a limited supply available, so come early.

We are a certified organic veggie operation! This week: Garlic, White Turnips, maybe tomatoes, fingerling potatoes, arugula,  kale,  green onions.

VEGGIES ~  SWEET PEPPER SALE!  Freeze some Vitamin C for winter.  Lettuce mix; Chard and Kale;  Scallions; Beets for canning and eating fresh; Pole Beans:  Rattlesnake and Gold of Bacau; Bush Beans:  Jade and Masai; The last of the Melons ~ Cantaloupe and Red Watermelons!  Eggplant (Roast it and freeze it!);  Heirloom, Roma, Drying and Regular Tomatoes ~ Large ones, Medium and Small, too, and in maybe in quantity!    Red Norland and our new favorite AUGUSTA Potatoes (Yellow skin with a pink blush and yellow flesh), possibly some Russets and Bintje potatoes, too;  Tomatillos, Lots of  Sweet Peppers in red, green, purple, and yellow; Hot peppers,  Summer squash,  Kohlrabi.  Herbs: Parsley, Dill, Basil, and Rosemary.  Flower fans: Sunflowers!

BEEF ~    BEEF SALE:  Roasts and stew meat from April are on sale $1 off per lb!  Our stew meat is from more tender cuts of beef than most – sirloin tip, for example. Please note: We are out of Steaks.  Consider other cuts of beef now that the weather is a bit cooler.  Crock pot a roast or short ribs.

Our steers are on lush rotational pastures from May to November.  They get all our quality hay they can eat, plus a little home-grown and ground- on-the-farm grain mostly in winter. Feeding cows small amounts of good grains are like humans eating small portions of dessert.  It’s ok for them as long as grass and legumes are their main diet.  The steers are hung to age and processed by Ebel’s Meats in Falmouth, a family-run USDA operation. This Saturday we’ll take along our certified organic pinto beans and black beans. Stop by Olson Farms booth to see how to PRESSURE CAN our DRY BEANS! We’ll comb the garden to see what’s ready–likely green and yellow beans, squash, and peppers. And we’ll take along handwoven rag rugs (made from recycled materials), fresh-from-the-farm wool socks, yarn and roving for spinning.

McLaughlin Grows of Muskegon

We will bring our large Cuostralee Heirloom Tomatoes, Sungold and red cherry toms, and other veggies. Also we will have our CSA shares ready for pick up.

Canning time! I’ll bring canning quantities of Blue Lake Heirloom green beans and 1/2 bushels of tomatoes. Also: Onions plus my Taste of Spring Maple Syrup.

Pastries for Saturday:  We will be baking our Delightful Pecan Date Scones, Lovely Lemon Scones, Cranberry Orange Scones, Truly Ginger Scones, and our Michigan Cherry Scones.  All of our scones are made with organic butter and cream, fresh eggs, and a pinch of organic sugar.  We will also be baking our Expedition Cookies, our Tree Hugger PB Cookies, and our Deep Mud Brownies.

***HAVE YOU TRIED OUR GRANOLA LATELY?  We make two different varieties of granola including:

MOUNTAIN CRUNCH GRANOLA:  organic oats, organic sunflower seeds, organic coconut, sliced almonds, Michigan honey, organic coconut oil, pure vanilla, sea salt. $6.00/pound

LAUGHING TREE PEANUT BUTTER GRANOLA:  organic oats, organic sunflower seeds, organic coconut, Michigan honey, Michigan-made peanut butter, organic coconut oil, pure vanilla, sea salt. $6.00/ pound

Both of these granolas are baked in our wood-fired brick oven after the intense bread-baking heat has dissipated (after several days).  They are baked at a low temperature to ensure that the nutrients in the grains and seeds remain intact!  Please note, these granolas are SWEETENED ONLY WITH MICHIGAN HONEY!  There is absolutely no refined sugar in them.  They are both wonderful with milk or yogurt or as part of a trail mix.  Our children love them!  Come have a taste…  At least one variety will be available at the market each week.
