We will be offering the following:
Locally Grown Rabbit – Whole   Average 2.7 lbs  $8.00 per LB

USDA Organic Black Garlic.   Black Garlic starts off as regular white hardneck garlic.  Black Garlic is commonly referred to as being fermented, in fact, it’s not fermented.  It is a curing/drying process. The process of making black garlic is slow and done over a number of days. This completely changes the flavor, texture, smell, and even increases the health benefits of the garlic.  This USDA Organic garlic is  grown and processed in the USA.  $10.00 per 3.75 oz Resealable Pouch We will be offering a limited amount of taste samples weather permitting.
Onion Flakes. Only ingredient is our Certified Naturally Grown onions. $10.00per 6 oz Resealable Pouch
Hot Pepper Powder. Only ingredient is our Certified Naturally Grown hot peppers. $5.00per 2 oz Spice Jar

The Pasturage of Montague
I’m still waiting for the “lamb” in the weather. It’s been rather like a lion lately. However, our ewes have dropped 9 lambs so far. They must have missed the memo. No matter. They always amaze me with their resilience. Dan has started calling one of them “Kiss” after the 80’s hair band because its face is half black and half white.
All our goods are available for pre-order on our online form found at www.thepasturage.com/order

The Woven Farm of Whitehall
The sun is shining and crops are slowly growing! We have had a smooth start to the season with running water – Wowie does it feel great to not be spending time and energy hauling buckets!
Our hoophouse is planted out in spring greens and early season flowers that are growing more vibrant by the day with all of this sunshine!
I hope to return to market in April (perhaps late March if the crops allow!)
In the meantime, the early season support of the farm through CSA purchases is extremely appreciated as we make the necessary investments for this season!
We have a few CSA shares left (both veggie and flower shares are available!)

The Pasturage of Montague
It’s nearly March! We’ve had a bonafide winter, for which I am glad. It made it easy to keep the animals happy because the ground is frozen. Now they only have to slog through mud for 2 months, not 4 (or more). Feeding them is easier, too. Watering, however, will become easier with spring, which I am looking forward to. I have been enjoying listening to the birds as I do chores.
We have all your goods at www.thepasturage.com/order where you’ll see everything including ingredients, price per pound, average price per package and practices and certifications.
Thanks!
Funding update: thank you for calling your representative.  Kathy Voth, editor of On Pasture, writes “Thanks to the alarms sounded by producers across the country some reimbursements may be on the way. It appears that $20 million in existing contracts funded through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) will be honored and funds were unfrozen to pay those obligations. This tells me that farmers and ranchers have a degree of influence they shouldn’t be afraid to wield.
But as Mike Lavendar, policy director for the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition says, ‘It’s a pittance.'”
So.
We’re not out of the woods.
Good thing we’re into agroforestry, aka silvopasture.

Tortoise & Hare Farm of North Muskegon
New! Our 2025 CSA and Farm Card info is up at the Farm Store website. If you are considering joining a CSA for 2025 take a look, offering an Early Order Sale Price right now. https://tortoise-hare-farm.square.site/s/order#6
Established in 2018, Tortoise & Hare Farm grows a wide variety of Certified Naturally Grown vegetables. We are dedicated to growing clean, safe, high quality vegetables without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. We offer a summer CSA and weekly farm stand at the farm (3940 N. Weber Rd, Muskegon, MI 49445).

The Mannor Farm of Hesperia
We will be offering our CSA  card again this year.
We only offer a Farm Card/Free Choice CSA Membership.  This type of CSA allows you to choose how you would like to spend your CSA dollars. You receive a prepaid card.  With it, you can purchase locally naturally grown veggies, dried produce, meat, or eggs from us.  You can pre-order for pick-up at one of the several local farmers markets that we attend.  Or come to the farmers market and purchase directly from us.
You can purchase a card for as much as you want but there is a $100 minimum.  Once you have a card, additional funds may be added to your card at any time.
Why should you do this?

  • Flexible; you buy what you want, when you want
  • No weekly commitment
  • Easy to use
  • Cards can be used to purchase everything we offer at our farmers market locations without pre-ordering.
  • Your card balance never expires
  • You can check your balance at any time
  • You increase your buying power by 10 – 20%

Why are we doing this?

  • Interest rate on borrowed money has gone up drastically in the last 4 years.
  • We must purchase most of our seeds and supplies during the time when our sales are the lowest or not at all.
  • Inflation…the cost of our supplies have gone up over the last 6 years
  • Without the additional funds we will be forced to cut back on our operation

If you are interested, you can go to Purchase a CSA Card for more information and to purchase a membership.  If you would like you can email us your info to purchase a membership.
Please share this information with your family and friends.
We thank you for your business and time.  We look forward to your continued support.

The Pasturage
Our piggies have a new mate. The last boar was a dud, so he went to be pet food. Boars, when fully grown, often have an off taste to the meat. It’s called boar taint. Some boars don’t have it at all, others are quite pronounced. Regardless of how this boar tastes, we are selling it as pet food because he wasn’t born on our farm and we can’t vouch for the first year or so of his life. So, if you have a pet that would enjoy fresh ground pork with nothing added, we have it available for $3/#. If you buy 25# or more, it’s $2.50.  You can place an order on our pre-order form found at www.thepasturage.com/order along with all our human food. And let’s hope this new boar won’t miss the mark!
We are inside at Muskegon Farmers market every Saturday, and have pork, lamb, turkey and chicken for every occasion.
Tootles!

The Pasturage
Hi folks! Winter, in our area, is decreasing by 9 days annually, Hurricane Helene demolished Asheville, wild fires are roaring in California, and tornado season is nearly all year round. This is climate change. The antidote is to sequester carbon. Our farm does this. Won’t you join us in being the change you want to see?  Here are some ways to support us without spending a dime: spread the word about us to anyone and everyone you know, sign up for our newsletters, come to our free events, and tell us about resources, opportunities or other things you think it might be helpful for us to know. And, as always, check out what we have in stock via our pre-order form: www.thepasturage.com/order
Tootaloo!

The Pasturage
We will return to Muskegon Market on January 11.
We have bacon, pork chops, breakfast links… check out www.thepasturage.com/order for everything from jowl to hock, beak to claw, nose to hoof (read: pork, chicken, turkey and lamb). Our lamb is Animal Welfare Approved and Certified Grassfed by A Greener World. We are also enrolled in their Certified Regenerative program with certification slated for spring 2027. When you get your certification, it’s not like you’ve arrived and can set back and rest on your laurels. There is no static, stable state on our farm. We are always either improving soil or harming it. There is no middle ground. Being Certified Regenerative simply means we do everything we can to improve the soil and people come out and check on us to make sure we are doing what we say. The proof is in the soil; to the untrained eye, it all looks the same. Green is good, right? We want to assure you that what we do on our farm is sequestering carbon, reversing climate change, eliminating runoff and, oh yeah, tasty and good for you. Like I said, natural systems are complex and you are never “there.” But we are continually, conscientiously moving in that direction. Thanks for reading; I am so glad we are in this journey together.

The Pasturage of Montague
Hi Folks!  Winter is truly here and I am truly happy about it.  For us, snow means so many good things: it interrupts the parasite cycle for the animals, it’s not muddy, it gives the sheep and pigs something to investigate, it insulates the standing tall grass that we leave in the pasture creating a lovely home for field mice and other critters, it shows us the tracks of deer, coyotes, and birds that clearly know our land and traverse it regularly, and it’s easier to see them because they don’t blend in the background. Yesterday, Dan saw a bald eagle!
However, I don’t like driving in it.  I took our pigs in to the slaughterhouse and I’m thankful there was a break in the weather.  We should have pork back in stock in two weeks.
In the meantime, our current offerings are listed on our online pre-order form found at www.thepasturage.com/order where we also post prices and ingredients.
Happy Holidays!
Julie
