Five Oaks Farm CSA of Montague
Welcome to all the new members this week -we’ve been busy planting vegetables for you! With snow peas, spinach, lettuces, kales, onions, radish, & mixed greens in the ground and many more transplants waiting their turn in the greenhouse, we’re gearing up for a great year. If want to join our CSA we have many options to suit your needs and your budget, including half price shares for Bridge Card families. We are partnering with Sweetwater Center for Organic Opportunity for our Good Food for All fund; your tax deductible contribution to this project will help families who could use it afford our CSA. There is more info about this project and our farm at http://fiveoaksfarmcsa.weebly.com/ , and we’ll have info available at the market.

Every day our daughter Annie (and Mama too) starts the day with toast. Annie’s favorite is Kamut—Mama’s favorite is Annie’s Raisin Spice. We love our whole grains–after a nice long fermentation period! The fermentation time (when bread is still dough) increases the overall digestibility of grains—in fact without this long fermentation most grains are very hard for our bodies to digest. Natural leavening (fermentation) pre-digests gluten and helps our bodies access the numerous vitamins and minerals that grains offer. Tell your friends about naturally leavened bread!! Come get FRESH GREENS, carrots, and Naturally Leavened bread!

Earthscape Farm of Hesperia
BEEF! We should have all cuts of beef this week! AND it is continuing to rise in price. Our ground beef has taken the big jump this month. That’s because we can get almost as much money for our steers if we sold them live as we can when we go to the extra hassle of butchering them out to sell at Market! I know, it’s ridiculous. We hope to have some ground beef specials soon.
Our cattle eat $600 worth of hay per week this time of year! And getting them out on grazing pasture will be later than usual because of the cold weather and all the snow. They are enjoying the sunshine and exercise, and calving has begun – 6 new calves last I checked.
ORGANIC OLIVE OIL ~ Imported by Higher Grounds in Traverse City. $15 per bottle!
HIGHER GROUNDS COFFEE in 12 oz and 1# bags. Certified organic, Fair Trade. Various types, beans or ground, dark or medium roast, full caf, half caf or decaf. Try a cup at the Sweetwater Market table!
Maple Moon Farm of Shelby
Though the weather is slow to transition from the chill of winter, our farm is stirring and beginning to see glimpses of spring.
Our hoop houses are warming in the ever increasing sunshine and lots of growth is happening!
We are excited to have fresh SPINACH!
We will also have CARROTS.
Winter carrots are the sweetest! The cold causes the carrot to increase sugars, as a life preserving measure. Reap the benefits of all this cold weather!
Red LaSoda POTATOES. Beautiful red skin and creamy white flesh. These are tasty all purpose potatoes; roast them, bake them or mash them. The lull in potatoes is fast approaching.
**BOTANICAL EGG DYES**
We have put together 100% plant material dyes for eggs.(organic and fair trade botanicals) Beautiful, rich colors. One kit comes with 9 dye packets capable of making all the colors of the rainbow. Safe for you, the environment, and all the little hands that touch your colored eggs.

We have great program available through our farm. It’s a market based CSA, and allows customers to choose their investment amount and what they receive in produce. Please ask us about it!
Another facet of this program is community based food support. In partnership with our community, we have a community fund on our farm. We believe that everyone should have access to clean food and water. If you or someone you know could benefit from receiving produce from our farm without any/or reduced out of pocket expense, just ask us for an application. Or, if you would like to learn more about how you can contribute, please pick up a brochure or ask about it.

Along with our bottled syrup, we have also expanded our line of maple products this summer to include the following:
Maple Cream – this is maple syrup condensed, cooled, and stirred into a beautiful buttery-like spread excellent on bagels, toast, doughnuts, winter squash, or a glaze on meat (esp. fish, and venison). The best thing about this is that it is totally natural only pure maple syrup.
Maple Candy – an excellent treat for someone’s sweet tooth. Simply pure maple syrup cooked down to only sugar and minerals remaining with enough moisture to hold the sugar in beautiful little maple leaf shaped candies.
Maple Granulated Sugar – is much like Maple Candy but without moisture. This can be used in place of white sugar as a natural sweetener along with the maple taste (esp. on oatmeal)
Maple Sugar-Coated Almonds and Pecans – a healthy sweet and crunchy treat. These make great gifts if they don’t get eaten before that!!!
Please stop by and check out all these 100% natural products for yourself. We would be very happy to answer any questions or visit our web www.kaszasugarbush.com Looking forward to seeing you Saturday!
