Sweetwater Local Foods Market
DriveThrough & Walk-in Pre-Order Market
Saturday, May 8th 2021
Limited One Hour Market: 10:00am to 11:00am
Mercy Health Lakes Village
6401 Harvey St. at US31/Pontaluna Rd.
Spring is really ramping up here at Sweetwater! This week we are adding a brand new Muskegon farm to the family: The Woven Farmstead! And Blackbird Farm will be back with garden plants, & Wormies will have the perfect soil amendments….whew!
Our first trial last Saturday with both Drive Through & Walk in went pretty well. But PLEASE do take a look at the map below for directions!
Unless a farm prefers not to, we will still be taking pre-orders and the market will still be just one hour until the arrival of our vegetable vendors later in the month. Many of the vendors will also have extra items along with them for purchase the day of the market.
As for Covid protocols, at this point in time farmers markets are still required to maintain the required 6ft social distance as well as requiring masks for both vendors and customers walking in.
Please know this is all a work in progress; if something about this new arrangement doesn’t work we will continue to make changes until we have something that the majority of you are all comfortable with.
If you’re new to the market, please see instructions along with the map at the bottom of this newsletter for more info on How to Order & Pick Up at Market. Payment is accepted online when you preorder, or cash/check at time of pickup.

NEW VENDOR!
The Woven Farmstead of Muskegon
Hello! My name is Sam, and I am the owner, and sole farmer of The Woven Farmstead. The Woven Farmstead is a part of a trifecta business called The Woven Trifecta, and is focused on intertwining wellness within nurture, nature, and nutrition.
The Woven Farmstead is a half acre urban farm in Muskegon, MI growing a wide variety of veggies, herbs, and cut flowers, as well as raising chickens and quail for eggs. All products are Certified Naturally Grown, and grown with love.
I am a first generation farmer with a dream of ‘growing flowers and being happy’ and to grow good food for my community. Prior to starting my own farm, I spent time as a farm hand on other local farms, as well as served as farm manager within a local organization managing both production as well as programming. I am excited to be growing good food and contributing to our local food system.
To learn more about the farm, and the trifecta as a whole, visit: www.thewoventrifecta.com

Coopersville, Michigan
We’re back this week with a variety of herb, flower, and vegetable plants for your garden!
Due to capacity issues, we will be doing **walk-up sales only** for our plant sales at Sweetwater this May (payment via cash, check, or credit card). That said, we fully understand that not everyone is able, willing, or ready for in-person connection at the market yet, and we want to make sure that we are able to serve these individuals as well. The best way for us to do that is via pre-orders that can be **picked up, contact-free, at our farm in Coopersville** at a mutually convenient time in May. For more information on this option, please e-mail us at hello.blackbirdfarms@gmail.com, and we will send you the link to our online order form. We understand that this may not be ideal, but we do appreciate your patience as we navigate a busy month ahead with limited staff, time, and resources. 🙂
Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to see you at Sweetwater this Saturday!

The Pasturage LLC of Montague
Julie Engel owns and operates The Pasturage, LLC, which uses a wise mix of technology and tradition to produce good meat. Our pigs and sheep range on 40 acres in Montague, MI. The pigs eat certified organic grain (75% corn, 25% soy), are born on the farm, primarily roam in the woods, and get hay and baleage in the winter. The sheep are 100% grass-fed, are moved daily to a new paddock in the summer, and are also born on the farm. Both are in the process of becoming Animal Welfare Approved. Enjoy!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR How to Pre-Order (for both Drive Through & Park & Walk-in)
1. Look over the list. Each vendor has a unique deadline for when they need to receive your pre-order depending on their product. Send your pre-order by email to each vendor you want to order from, within their required deadlines.
2. Vendors will respond back by no later than Friday before market day with an order confirmation and an invoice that in most cases will allow you to pre-pay for your order. If a vendor is not set up to take payment online they will accept checks (preferred) or cash in a sealed envelope on market day pickup.
3. Market Day for Park & Walk-in. Please see the map for where you will need to park and enter the market space. You may pick up your pre-orders from each vendor & purchase from additional vendors who have extra products.
4. Market Day For Drive Through Pre-Orders: Please see the market map with arrows indicating which way you should plan to approach the market. You are basically going to come in to the market the same way as before and then circle the perimeter of the vendor area, exiting the same way you come in. We will also have signs to help point you in the right direction.
5. (Drive Through) Using a sheet of paper at least 8.5 x 11, please list all of the vendors you have orders with in black marker (or something as visible), large enough for vendors to see it clearly. Please put your first & last name at the top of the list. Tape or hold up the list to the side window or front windshield where it will be most visible.
6. Have your trunk, or designated area of your car ready to receive your goods. A cooler is suggested for refrigerated & frozen items.
7. As you are driving through, each vendor will bring your order to your vehicle and place it in the trunk or other designated space, and collect payment if you have not paid in advance.
