Our chickens are raised on grass and alfalfa pasture. They get lots of sunshine and wind, leftover veggies, and non-gmo feed.

This week we will be at market with our certified organic beans, all harvested last fall, in the following varieties:
Black Turtle – Common black bean with a thick skin and a meaty texture.
Black Valentine – Taste like kidney beans, great for salads, soups and dips.
Hutterite Soup – Comfort food, cook fast, creamy soup, baby food.
Jacob’s Cattle – Big and meaty, taste & texture of new potatoes, traditional baked beans, chili.
Marrow – (Almost gone) Creamy bean, good in soups and baked beans.
October – (Almost gone) Creamy, velvety smooth texture, nutty, sweet flavor, thin skin, soups or chili.
Painted Lady – Slightly sweet bean, smooth, creamy texture, good in everything.
Pinto – Earthy flavor, great in Mexican cooking, falls apart under long cooking.
Zebra – (Almost gone) Smooth, creamy texture, full-bodied flavor, good all-purpose bean
Please let us know ahead of time if you’d like to order 5# bags of any one variety, so that we can pre-bag those and bring them along.
In addition, we will have Grassfield Farms organic raw aged cheeses along in the following flavors:
Aged Cheddar – You asked, and we listened! A sharp cheddar, aged a year. Award-winning!
Chili – Gouda with Red Chili flakes, this mild and creamy cheese has delightful spice without being too hot.
Country Dill – A house favorite, the dill herb in Gouda well represents the fresh grass that dominates the cows’ diet.
Crofters – This delicious cheese is aged 1 year with a medium sharp taste. The texture is dry and crumbly. Very similar to Parmesan.
Edam – It’s back! A variety of Gouda made with skim milk: Elastic, yet firm, this flawless low fat cheese is our best melter, improving any dish.
Garlic & Onion – The most aromatic of herbs. Don’t be the only one in the room to eat this spiced Gouda or you soon will be.
Gouda – A traditional handmade cheese in keeping with West Michigan’s (and our family’s) Dutch culture.
Lamont Cheddar – A rare, natural rind English cheese, named for the Grand River’s first settlement near our farm.
Leyden – Originally from the Rhine Valley, now the Grand River Valley; cumin perfectly compliments this aged Dutch cheese.
Cheese Sticks – Want to try some cheese, but don’t need a whole 8 ounces? We’ll have a few cheese sticks along each week, in a variety of cheese types, for $2 each.
And we will have our certified organic non-GMO corn along in two different options:
Whole corn (for making masa) – 2# bags. If you want corn in larger amounts than just 2#, please email me. We will have the little packets of lime necessary for making the masa, as well.
Freshly-ground corn meal – 2# bags. We took our whole corn down to Windmill Island in Holland and had them grind corn meal for us. This stoneground meal is fresh, fresh, fresh–what I will have along to market Saturday is the third batch!

Stuart Family Organics of Custer
Jim Stuart, founder and CEO of Stuart Family Organics, grew up on his parents’ farm eighteen miles southeast of Ludington, Michigan. For over 25 years he has made his own bread and other baked goods from his own hard red wheat, working at farming mainly during the summers, teaching English in Scottville, Michigan during the rest of the year.
Now retired from teaching, Jim’s farming is certified organic and his children, Meranda, Wesley and Kyle (all in their twenties), have returned home to help with the farm and selling products at farmers’ markets. These products include the Powerhouse Muffins, several variations of tofu cookies, which usually surprise customers with their tastiness, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, hard red whole wheat flour, and the wheat grain or berries from which the flour is grown.

In the meantime if you are interested in taking a kombucha /jun tea class
Sunday, August 16th at 3pm at Lakeshore Yoga Center in Grand Haven. This class will be $15 for one person, or $25 if you sign up with a friend. You can prepay at the Sweetwater Local Foods Market on Saturdays from 9-Noon, or reserve your spot by calling or texting 989.439.0352. This fee includes 1 kombucha scoby, samples of kombucha and jun tea, and a how-to sheet with more information for when you make your own at home! This class should take about 1.5 hours. Please RSVP with questions that you would like answered about kombucha, jun or ferments in general. We have been fermenting for over a year, have done extensive research and currently work for a local kombucha brewing company. We were sick for too long, and are so grateful to have found fermented foods and drinks, and we would love to share our knowledge with all of you. Cheers! –Jordan and Sara
